Another hot and sticky day so groans all round for the lost toss as we trudged into the field. Elliot was running a little late but the Broomfield 10 soon had Rayleigh 4 wickets down after 6 overs with hattrick chances for both Robin and Noah. A spurned catch off their remaining opener while on 4 was eventually taken 100 runs later as he went to 103, with a lot of average bowling and fielding in between. We got Rayleigh all out for 230 but that score was far too high given the start we had and the numerous drops thereafter. Robin finished on 3 wickets with Noah, Elliot and Aziz all getting 2 a piece before Jamie finished things off with a victim of his own. 5 catches from young Ben Baines behind the stumps cost his dad a jug back at the club, a rare highlight from our fielding display.

Given the super dry outfield 230 didn't seem a daunting target and a solid start from Rich and Aziz helped keep the faith. Unfortunately starts seemed to be the best we could do as all the top order fell relatively cheaply, Rich's 28 being the best they could muster. Robin's 28 kept hopes
alive but 13 from Jamie at the end was the only other score of note. We came up short, all out 39 runs behind. A real shame as it would have only taken one bat to properly get in to force the win but it wasn't to be. Improvement needed for the next match to get our season back on track.
