Match report BCC 2s Vs Woodham Mortimer 2s

First time we'd played WM for a while and with them placed just below us in the league we didn't know what to expect. On a batting day the captain naturally lost the toss so into the field we went with Robin and Thomas opening the bowling. Tight lines all round with an eventual breakthrough by Robin, caught by Edward for a father and son combo, not too long after a drop that will never be spoken of again. Still, no harm done as WM couldn't get the ball off the square against our very efficient bowling; Edward, Ruwan and Andy all returning decent economy rates even if the wickets weren't tumbling. Ruwan, excitable as ever in his fruitless search for a wicket, emphatically claimed for an LBW off of what was clearly a bat sound, to the point where Rich quipped that only Long John Silver would have been given out. Andy made the next breakthrough, then Michael and finally Thomas, with a well deserved victim from his second spell. A couple of catches went down in between but overall a good restrictive effort to limit them to 188 off a surface that should have produced a score in excess of 250.

John and Rich were tasked with chasing down the modest total and John got off to a flyer, his wagon wheel looking evenly spread as he dispatched the openers to all sides. No such luck for Rich as he was given LBW early on but we needn't have worried as Michael Sawyer held up the other end to counter John's belligerence. Michael finished on a solid 31, further demonstrating how much we've missed him. Henry came in and looked to match John's hitting as the latter almost single handedly chased down the required runs, eventually out for an impressive 80 off only 22 overs. That brought Ruwan into the fold and he finally showed us what he is capable of with a number of 4s and 6s, including reverse and switch hits, to finish on 29 not out alongside Henry's 25 to record a comprehensive win in only 24 overs. A good team effort that started with the bowlers and was finished by our talented bats; halfway point of the season and we're sitting pretty 3rd in the table, can we push on even higher...?
