East Hanningfield & Gt. Burstead 1st X1 v Broomfield Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 03 Jun 2023 at 1:00
Broomfield Cricket Club Won by 37 runs
Match report
The Captain won the toss and rightfully elected to bat on a warm day. Missing opening options, Rich and The Captain went out to bat. The former not overly confident was duly back in the hutch after 5 balls of the game. The Captain again got started but played the shot the pitch told you not to and went for 24. Rorn and Stylo began to get the scoreboard going until Rorn was inexplicably given out LBW on 62 after making connection with the bat, perhaps some blinding glare from the bowler and umpire's lids could excuse but there would've needed to have been the missing hair on top in the ears not to hear the 2 noises. Anyway, Stylo continued to score well until he Fished one to cover for 57. The evergreen Bainesy steadied the ship to see us bat out our overs with another score, 42 this time. Aziz added a duck to his dismissal which set him up nicely, whilst Goat hit shot of the season for 1 to get off the mark for the season. Ending on 222-9 which looked like it might be a touch under par.
In response, they continued to score quite quickly until Raj made the breakthrough, another suicidal back foot shot from The Captain of the oppo. Then The Captain brought the Goat on, 2nd ball removed the other dangerous opener, 1/3 of the inevitable flag complete (confirmed shortly after midnight). They were always ahead of the game until it looked like a longer tail than expected which we were in to after NC went through them like a vintage knife through butter. Rich's day got better as he attempted a good looking run for the Dales, copping one in the eye as he went down in installments but this was a one horse race that Thommo would've struggled to call a FOTO on. We took the majority of the catches well, particularly the agility of the worn out Bainesy when NC delegated via shriek for one.
They would end 185 all out, 37 short. Good win.
Dales was done in the first 6 votes for Aziz.
