Broomfield Cricket Club Won by 85 Runs

Match report Welcome to Goatball..........

The day got off to a dramatic start when stand in captain Rich was struck down with a mysterious illness. Was it Voodoo? Was it Cholera from going through the bins for dinner? Or had he managed to catch the deadly bout of food poisoning from Rorn? What ever it was he spent Saturday in A&E so a stand in for the stand in was required. It must've been well known across the county as the cameras were on and a peak audience of 27,000 was recorded by Terling's site.

The Interim Captain, who had only previously seen one of his side play cricket, won the toss (shock) and decided to bat knowing that was the only realistic way of ensuring maximum points.

Sam and Dave opened up and after a steady start, built an excellent platform for those to come. Sadly, Sam decided to take on the 70 year old keeper's arm, despite the ball only being about 12 inches off the wicket and was run out for 45. Ruwan came in took the advice of 'plenty of time here mate, don't need to go from ball 1' on board as he tried to hit first ball back to Witham, were he had been at 12:20 only realising then he needed a lift to the game. Luckily he found one but despite a couple of decent hits, he was bowled for 8 trying to hit a long hop into orbit. Henry (the one player the interim had seen play) joined Dave and they pushed us on towards a good score. Dave letting loose after he passed 50, produced a chanceless knock (if you excuse the 9 times he was dropped). With 10 overs to go and plenty of batting to come, the interim told the boys to get the rate up which they did. Dave eventually fell for 91 but the lower order all chipped in and we posted 237-7. Max batting points obvs.

With the ball, Jamie, who was clever enough to bowl in the nets in front of the interim during the first innings, got us off to prefect start with an utter J of an in-swinger. Many more followed and he was unlucky only to take 1 wicket . Sam quickly added another before going full Fish and stiffening up after 6 overs. Tristan making his return to the side came on first change as the interim had seen his brother play so assumed he must be decent as well... and he was, taking a wicket in a very tidy four over spell.

Soon though it was time for pace off, and the interim in tandem with Ruwan ripped through the middle order. Ruwan bowling a very tight spell which included 2 wickets and an LBW appeal that basically frightened the oppo into giving it out. The interim took 4 (won't mention the drops to deny the 5-for but saved the interim a jug) and Harshan picked up the final wicket. All out for 148.

Max points, never in doubt. Cheers.
