Broomfield Cricket Club Lost by 10 wickets
Match report
Gt Baddow vs BCC
So how do we polish this turd? On what looked like a nice flat wicket, and with a strong batting line up on paper, it seemed a no brainer to bat first. Richard and Stuart opened against their U15 bowlers, perhaps a bit of over confidence, certainly there were too many shots played in the air, with a big boundary and fielders further back than it looked. End result both out cheaply. Matty in at 3 didn’t last long which brought in Henry. Ruwan was meant to be in at 5, but was sitting in his car, taking what could only have been a very important phone call, which meant Jim had to rush in from umpiring and change with superman speed to face their even better first change bowlers. Henry, who looked to have settled nerves, chose not to move his feet to a ball that took his leg stump. So enter last week’s hero Ruwan, surely he’d be worth the wait and get us back in the game? Out first ball. That left Jim with the tail, and a mixture of misfortune and desperate swipes had us all done for 43.
With nothing to defend the opening pair of Jamie and Ruwan tried their best, Jamie in particular prolonged our slow death with final figures of 4.5-3-18-0 but even with the captain declaring that the jug bar had been lowered to a single wicket, Great Baddow eased across the finishing line in 10 overs without loss. People were asking if full match fees were required but in all seriousness this was an embarrassment. We have to improve at home next week against the only team worse than us so far. Let’s dust ourselves off and go again.
