Broomfield Cricket Club Won by 135 runs

Match report BCC 2s Vs Writtle

The shenanigans first time round in our narrow defeat were paled into insignificance by the fact it was a very hot day and no one wanted to bowl first. The captain leaping and whooping in the middle after the toss told the Broomfield faithful all they needed to know, into bat we went. After his recent performances Liam was promoted to open with John and the duo didn’t disappoint. John took the attack to Writtle as he dispatched every bad ball to the boundary, with Liam holding up the other end. John raced to his 50 then his 100 with Liam keeping in touch with a 50 of his own. The 200 partnership came up and was only ended by Liam going for 70. Dave came and went with Henry following soon after without troubling the scorers too much. Once John fell for a very impressive 134 it was over to the middle order to push us past 300. Ruwan gave us his full repertoire as he hit his maiden 50; Edward and Andy couldn’t quite keep pace but Robin bludgeoned a few 4s at the end to help us to an intimidating total of 323, a season high.

It was still hot out there as Robin and Andy opened, with Andy hitting top of off after 4 overs to remove their opener. Things were pretty quiet after that, not many runs but no wickets either as Writtle didn’t know whether to stick or twist in the face of solid bowling from Ruwan and Thomas. Time for some magic. Through the swirling vortex of smoke and fire stepped the Wizard, Issac. Without any respect for the remaining opener that had held up his end for 20 overs, Issac bowled him first ball as thunder and lightning streaked across the sky. Their thick set No. 3 had just passed his 50 but his powers were no match for our warlock as he was also clean bowled. Local Jedis must have sensed a disturbance in the force as Issac’s true leg spin accounted for his 3rd victim, well caught by Ed at mid wicket; Issac’s day was done as he disappeared in a puff of smoke to return to his lair at fine leg. The mortal U15s, Josh and Edward, took over and both bowled well, with Josh picking up 2 wickets. Another off stump toppling from Andy then an edge from Robin had the Writtle 10 nearly all out until a final direct hit run out from Robin, thrown from the boundary that spookily jagged back onto the stumps at the end Issac was bowling, meant a last bit of magic had them vanquished. A comprehensive win leaves us unassailable in 3rd position; strong finish needed now to see if we can push for promotion.
