Match report BCC 2s Vs Boreham 2s

We hadn't played Boreham for a while and the last time we did they were on the veteran side of longevity so to see familiar names on their teamsheet, and the fact they'd lost all their opening games, lulled us into the false sense of security of an easy win. Even losing John to the 1s last minute didn't diminish from the fact that we had a strong line up, so captain Robin had no qualms opening with 1st team bowler Jack, partnered by the belated season debut of the more orthodox opener, James. However, the capricious cricket gods evidently didn't approve of our overconfidence as they imbued superhuman powers on Boreham's ever green skip, Ken Greenaway; he proceeded to wipe out our top and middle order leaving us 51/6 after only 11 overs. Under normal circumstances this would have made for a very interesting game but the Gods didn't wager for our own Achilles, Noah Pyne. Noah's had a good start to the season but what he went on to do today was ridiculous; 254 was his final score, his only partners of note were the Tweeds, Jamie hitting 32 to steady the ship despite suffering a migraine that kept him off the field during the second innings, and his dad with a well crafted 20 to further enhance his credentials. That aside it was the Noah show, and what a show it was, scoring seemingly at will with 34 4s and 6 6s making it a very hard day in the field for the aging Boreham side. It almost wasn't fair. We finished 397 for 9 after a bit of a recount, caused in no small part by the limited space in the score book that Noah tested beyond its design capabilities.

Chasing 397 was always going to be an unlikely challenge for any side let alone a Boreham team that struggled to hit it off the square. Jack and Robin got the band back together, opening like they used to do before the former got too good and went up to the 1s. Tight lines but no wickets until, of course, Noah took over. 4 wickets from his 6 overs, the most he is allowed in one spell being only 15 years of age, including a hattrick opportunity, put to bed any unlikely aspirations Boreham had of taking us on. The rest of the match became a series of half hearted 'ooohs' and 'ahhhs' as we set about their tail; 2 wickets a piece from Jack and Ruwan's second spells, and an early season special from Jim, with a couple of good catches from young Ben behind the stumps had them all out after 35 overs. Boreham were magnanimous enough to enjoy a few beers after the game but we all knew we'd witnessed something special. No doubt Noah will kick on from here and go on to bigger and better things but at least we can all say we were there. All said it's 3 wins from 4. Good start to the season.
