Match report Broomfield 2s vs Gt Baddow

First warm up match of the season. Captain Robin opened the bowling and struggled to cope with the windy conditions but only had himself to blame as he’d chosen to bowl first. Thankfully First team bowlers, Raj and Ruwan, the latter making his club debut, kept things decent and shared 2 wickets between them, helped by 2 good catches from Jim. Liam also contributed with a key wicket, removing the opener who was beginning to look very dangerous. The U15s were well represented by Ben Baines behind the stumps, and Edward and Jamie showing their supposedly more experienced fathers how to bowl properly. An overall mixed performance from the bowlers saw Gt Baddow finish 191/4 off 40 overs.

With some good bats in our ranks and less than 5 runs an over required we felt that a win was possible, and a solid start from Jim and Stuart kept that hope alive. After some nice shots Jim was first to depart making 14. John Baines came in next but just as he looked to be getting into his stride he went for 18. Stuart was still there, hitting as cleanly as ever, now joined by Ruwan who seemed intent on sending every ball into orbit, but it didn’t quite work out as he quickly found slip. The newly svelte Stuart made his 50 but went immediately after which left our hopes with the U15s. They all looked good out there but couldn’t really affect the lost cause, neither could Robin and Raj as we were all out for 116.

A good run out for everyone even if we didn’t really threaten the win. One more practice match next week before things get real.
