Broomfield Cricket Club 1st XI v Old Chelmsfordians 2nd XI on Sat 16 Jul 2022 at 13.00
Broomfield Cricket Club Won by 5 wickets
Match report
Arriving at a ground that appeared to have had its own monsoon on the wicket amidst the heatwave, the track wasn't as road like as expected. However, it was a toss you wanted to win and bat. Standard, we lost and fielded. As disappointed as our batsmen were, we set about getting the job done. Fish and Raj started, the former getting some tap from Davis whilst the latter was mopping up the top order. Raj finishing with 4-18 from his 9. NC drew a blank this week but there was no aggression towards him, respect now coming in droves. Dog picked up a couple and Goat started with J's and W's getting himself 2. A pretty poor score of 153 all out would leave the middle order hoping wickets would fall in our innings to get in.
In response, Egg and Gas started off pretty quickly until Gas chipped one back to the bowler. Egg and Rorn then put on 87 for the 2nd wicket which put the game to bed although when Egg went for 40, a flurry of wickets would come. Stylo only dealing in boundaries tried to iron out someone in the Angel garden but missed, then Dog smashed a leg stump full toss about 3 yards for a golden and Fish claimed he got a Waqar style in-swinger that did nothing and bowled him.
Rorn and Bainsey saw us home with 23 overs to spare, Rorn ending on 72*.
Dales were up for grabs, Gas losing the toss, Bainesy putting a couple down and Goat because he's always got at least one vote before the game even starts. However, Dog's shot won the day and also the McHat made a debut, which was nice. Eight wins in a row and a key fortnight of back to back games with the title rivals in front of us.
