Broomfield Cricket Club 1st XI v Theydon Bois on Sat 25 Jun 2022 at 13.00
Broomfield Cricket Club Won by 159 runs
Match report
At last, the day came with an aBUNdance of availability in order for the club to field 2 very strong teams, no need to go searching both hemispheres for players past and present for once. Gas was due to lose a toss and he did so but they stuck us in despite waiting on 2 players to arrive, inject. Egg and Gas started off well scoring freely enough and put on 83 for the opening stand until Gas nicked one behind on 40 and looked rather fuming with it. Egg passed 50 when Rorn joined the crease but he fell softly to Cossey who bowled a very interesting mixed bag. That left Rorn and Roni Styles to start getting the run rate up, Styles only dealing in boundaries these days to keep it simple for NC with pen in hand. He would fall for 23 as Rorn passed 50, taking a shine to Martin and Mill Lane. Noah came in for a late flurry as Rorn reached his 100, kindly dropped on 98 and knocking the ball over the rope for good measure, cheers Kane Stirlo. Fish and Bainesy added a few and JEP went suicidal for the 2nd week on the trot for another run out. 294/7 off the 45.
In response, they never looked like they were either going for it or going to get it. Tidy spells from Fish and Raj had them 3 down for not many with Goat waiting in the wings. Goat removed the dangerous Moore with one of many Js on the day to get the flag two thirds of the way there (that's where it would stay this week unfortunately). The bowling was all about NC though, furious with being 3rd change and kicking up the turf at square leg, he took his aggression out on the oppo and rolled them over with the first 5fer of the season. They ended on a limp 135 all out. 5 wins on the spin and only 2 points dropped in that time.
Dales were a tricky one this week, Dog making an effort by batting in a lid when not going to face a ball but it seemed one mistake was enough and Gas dropping a sitter claimed them.
