Hatfield Peverel 1st v Broomfield Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 28 May 2022 at 13.00
Broomfield Cricket Club Won by 4 wickets

Match report As we've not been setting any totals, the toss looked pointless as they wanted to bat and we didn't. Not the best of starts as the ball flashed in the air but only to the boundary for the first 20 overs until Goat got the breakthrough with an utter jaff, obvs. An opening partnership of 93 wasn't a great start. However, we pegged them back in the middle overs and didn't let any of their batters get to 50. Some good catches helped us restrict them to 223/9 off their 45, tidy spells from Fish and NC going for less than 30 from their overs. Liam also picked up his first wickets for the first team, could've had 3 if he didn't spill one off his bowling own too!! There was also some variable bounce so Bainesy said, making life difficult for keeping, apparently...

With the pitch being one where you needed luck not to get a straight one that didn't bounce, it was worth going for some shots not to die wondering. The dales were also very much up for grabs after a reasonable bowling and fielding performance. Enter the pacey pair of Egg and Jor. A solid start with boundaries coming, then Egg had a code brown from the female opener, get in all sorts of bother with a short one and top edged behind. The oppo enjoyed it as you could hear in neighbouring counties, that volume producing the inevitable nib from Egg, it was a good one. In came Rob to partner Jor, the latter unfortunately trapped bang in front shortly after. Enter Deacs, I mean Stylo, looking pretty bun again this week but not quite as bad as last. Rob and Stylo went right after everything and put on 111 for the 3rd wicket and put us well ahead of the required rate. When Stylo went for 68, shortly followed by Rob for 60, it was left to Gas to steer us home. The knock of 43* from the skipper was certainly more solid than his previous visit to the bog and probably the visit straight after as well.

At last, a win!!! Long time coming and we'll hopefully back it up next week.

Dales for Egg on a day where there was no genuinely deserving candidate but the nib was bad.
