Old Chelmsfordians 2nd XI v Broomfield Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 14 May 2022 at 13.00
Broomfield Cricket Club Lost by 6 wickets
Match report
Decent day and decent track for a bat, Gas winning the toss was the first shock of the day. Egg wasn't too chuffed falling early as he muttered his way back to the pavilion and was shortly followed by Stylo. Rob and Gas then got us up to 113-2 from 20 overs but then both went in quick succession which would pave way for the standard collapse. The curtain was finally pulled on the innings when Goat faced his first ball, it didn't get up apparently but certainly meant the Dales were looking like retaining their current home. Ending up with 159 from 37.1 although it felt like about 95 overs as the oppo retain the habit of having about 5 captains and changing the field about 9 times an over.
We started off well with the ball, a wicket 2nd ball for Raj. However, the other standard Broomfield occurrence was to follow shortly after. In the same over, both Davis and McNeil were dropped whilst in single figures, the latter was a relatively simple chance it must be said and Raj specifically placing the safe hands of Goat in the point region would prove to be a bad call. We could never get in to the game until a late flurry of wickets gave some false hope. Goat putting the icing on the cake for a memorable Dale contribution in all 3 facets of the game with 1 ball going for 6 off a guy who hadn't got one off the square before then, an economy of 36, effort. Nice to see Fish back as well getting no runs and as usual taking no wickets.
Penny needs to drop soon with the bat or it could be a long season, maybe someone from the 2s could force their way in to the struggling top order, only the committee can decide......
