Match report The curtain fell on the 2008 season with a bang!
After a promising opening partnership of 79 in just 15 overs between Woodger and Thorn was broken, batsman continued to miss straight balls (8 of the 9 out were bowled), and skipper Thorn tired of telling each new batsman to watch out for the indippers from the Springfield veteran from the picturesque A12 end as he dislodged the bails four times.
With wickets falling regularly and an inability to get after the left arm slow bowler, the total crept along and when some dreadful jug avoidance reared its ugly head, the score was 166-8 still with six overs to go. However, some canny experience from Coco and Jonty got the score up to a competitive 192-9.
The defence started well with the top five all skittled out with the total under 60. But the rearguard rebuilding from Springfield was paced perfectly as Coco and Fuzz had bowled their allotted 12 overs and PC Green was not allowed to return to the attack due to the ECB's regulations on youngster's workload.
However, when less than a run a ball was required, they embarked on a kamikaze run out and this seemed to disrupt the calm and panic ensued.
Anand took the ball for the last over with only 5 runs required. The bails flew first ball and that meant two new batsman were at the crease under extreme pressure in fading light. Excellent bowling under pressure and demon-like fielding only allowed 2 runs in 5 balls and Broomfield ended the year on a high.
