Broomfield Cricket Club 1st XI v Broken Wanderers on Sat 17 Apr 2021 at 1:00
Broomfield Cricket Club Won By 76 runs

Match report The one and only pre-season friendly against a wandering side who came from all parts of London and the South.

Broomfield won the toss and elected to bat, change of captaincy is really starting to impact that part of the game. With Egg being bent for Warren Members, Rich opened in his place alongside Gas. Runs came relatively easy at the beginning and we soon got to 50 without loss. Gas was the first to go, stacked it and laid on the pitch as debutant Tom raised the finger, (welcome Tom, nice work) Gas blaming his spikes and not his gut for some reason. Enter Rorn to make it 30+ stone at the crease. Rich crept his way to 50 with his first piece of exercise in 18 months and Rorn got there slightly quicker as per before both had gone just after the 20th over. Fish and Dog came in to slow the run rate down whilst still adding to the score, Dog a bit unlucky to get caught off a deflection and a fumble but obviously it had done a bit off the pitch to find the edge. Tom looked good on his first knock with his albino bat and struck a few to the rope as he got nicotine withdrawal. Fish tried to get clever with some shots and looked bun when stumped. Enter Egg, finally someone looking to take ownership of the Dales. Not being able to ground your foot when gravity takes over is actually a joy to watch from square leg. The Dales were now being fought after as Diesel popped in for a golden. Bainesy stayed there playing for his average for a change and we ended on 287-8 whilst the oppo joined us in emptying half of the bar during the 1st innings.

The Wanderers came in and got off to a lively start with the Wrighton brothers scoring for fun putting on over 100 for the first wicket. NC finally made the breakthrough and got the first wicket with a decent grab from Jack. After months of anticipation and probably the second most anticipated sporting event behind Joshua v Fury, the Goat loosened up. As predicted by the other 10 involved in the conversation, he got spanked (0-41 off 5 including 3 in the field), blamed the end chosen for him (complete lie) and claimed it was just a warm up for the league. He was made even more furious by Egg striking with his first ball and we gradually started to get through them as Dog and Gas finished the job with 3 each. Egg's wickets and Diesel's spell (plus headbutt on the ball that was looking at him in a funny way) saved them from the Dales which the Goat took with about 25 nibs on top.

A good day all round with some great weather for this time of year, a good few beers and 2 empty fridges which will please some members of the committee.
