Broomfield Cricket Club 2nd XI v Springfield 5th on Sat 21 Aug 2021 at 1:00
Broomfield Cricket Club Lost by 43 runs
Match report
A game we hoped to win was put at risk by a delayed rain start, the captains were literally 5mins away from calling it a day and hitting the bar early. However the rain relented and Springfield were put into bat for a reduced 30 over Innings. Robin and Noah started well and we had them at 34/2 after 10. Springfield had to accelerate and they took advantage of some loose bowling to take the total far higher than it should have been, another injury for Andy not helping our cause but a wicket a-piece for Kush, making his senior debut, and Alfie Alexander from the U13s, showed that is was worth sharing the bowling around as time in the middle can't be replicated in the nets. 176 was the slightly daunting total set for us.
Jim and Stuart made a bright start and kept up with the nearly 6 an over run rate required but Stuart, who was looking on form, was disappointed to depart earlier than he should have. Jim and Liam kept at it for a while but the runs dried up just when we needed to keep the pressure on until Will May came in and started to take the game back to Springfield. There was a lot to do and he too left a bit early which brought in Noah Pyne. Noah did what he does and started to hit big but Springfield were onto him quickly as they pushed the field back, frustrating him into singles. His task was not helped as Kush and Robin were overawed by the run-needing situation and wild swipes resulted in them both leaving for ducks, a golden in the Captain's case, further adding to his dismal season with the bat. Abhi was told to have a go and he showed what he could do with a determined 13 off a couple of overs but by then the run rate was 10 an over and even Noah couldn't save the situation as he carried his bat to the end with a well crafted 32*. A disappointing day all round to be beaten by a side below us but a big finish away to Writtle next week will help make this a distant memory.
