Broomfield Cricket Club 2nd XI v High Roding 2nd on Sat 31 Jul 2021 at 1:00
Broomfield Cricket Club Lost by 119 Runs
Match report
Since we last lost comprehensively to High Roding they have gone on dominate the league whereas we’ve been inconsistent at best so on paper it looked like this fixture was going to end in tears. The crying started as Captain Claw lost the toss meaning we had to bowl first at their formidable line up. Noah looked good, clean bowling their opener but the rest of us struggled to keep the run rate down. 3 wickets for Stuart added to his improving form this season and a maiden senior wicket for U13 Edward Baker, with help from a good catch by Jim, meant that at least he wasn’t crying. Heavy rain interrupted proceedings with 37 overs gone, thankfully limiting Roding to 238/6, just as Mark Alexander was getting his eye in; his two tidy overs at the end may have helped had Duckworth Lewis been in play, as enough time passed for the innings to end there. Broomfield knew what they had to do, chase down 238 in 37 overs.
Jim and Stuart opened and Jim’s search for his batting mojo unfortunately continues as he went early. The lost mojo is no doubt hanging out with Liam and Matty’s as they also went too soon; all need a quick 20 or a ‘daddy-35’ to get themselves going again. After a disciplined start Stuart soon got into his stride and announced his intentions with 18 off the 7th over then went up through the gears. Noah had joined him but the blossoming partnership didn’t last long as Stuart departed for 40. Noah had to take charge and further demonstrated his potential as the first change bowling was shown who’s boss, but with much left to do only another downpour could save the game, instead we were taunted by the sun as it finally decided to defy the forecasts and make an appearance. Noah went for an impressive 44 and soon after we were all out for 119. A tough day in the office but Stuart and Noah did well and the youthful line up will have a chance to avenge such defeats. This is the beauty of the game, while we are playing the rest of the world disappears for a bit and good moments will come in the future that makes us forget days like this.
