Broomfield Cricket Club 1st XI v Hatfield Peverel 1st on Sat 12 Jun 2021 at 1:00
Match was Tied
Match report
Hot day and luckily toss won. It looked like a decent was required but also on. There was plenty on offer and most obliged. Gas with his first 50 off the season, Bainesy bottling a 50 and Egg with 87 when he'd finally managed to get off his knees at the Wazza and turn up. Rich taking an early Dale lead with Goat triggered golden. We put up 292-7, surely even our bowling could defend that?
Phillips opened up with 3 boundaries in the first over so at least we knew they were going to have a go. Scot continued to bowl a decent tight spell in the circumstances but we couldn't get a wicket. Get the Goat and NC on to slow the over rate down with ball searches and run ups etc. Both got a wicket but the run rate was still decent with Cheek joining Phillips. Goat dropping Phillips off his own bowling looked like it might be costly. NC finally got Cheek and we looked like we might press on and wrap it up. However, dropped catches and some wayward bowling gave them a chance. Tom finally got Phillips and we were certainly in to the tail. However, they were still there and needed 11 off the last over. Eglin to bowl (this was basically a win win situation for Goat, either we win, or we wind Egg up all night). One, two, one and then somehow the little lad batting manages to carve one over cover point for 6, unreal. 2 balls to go, play and miss, dot. Last ball, play and miss, batsmen are both at Bainesy's end, a roll back to Egg who turned like the Tanic and we somehow ran him out, must've been inches in it (utter Rhys). Matched tied. One we should've absolutely won but at least we got some runs.
Dales was again a little controversial but with that good looking run in their innings, Deacs ran out a ready winner. and no need for a photo.
