Broomfield Cricket Club 1st XI v Eastwood 1st on Sat 01 May 2021 at 1:00
Broomfield Cricket Club Won by 54 runs

Match report First game of the season and max points to start.

Toss won by Rorn and we batted. Solid start from Egg and Gas putting on 40 odd til Gas went. Tom on debut with half a hair cut joined Egg who went on to 50 until spooning one square. Rorn came in and had a couple of free hits before getting a life and chucking it away the next ball. Tom went straight away and the famous Broomfield collapse looked on after we probably fancied gerving 300+. Dog and Rich steadied the ship until Rich stuck one down deep square's throat when it should've got the Prindog treatment. Enter JEP with his new weapon after retiring his old piece that was probably older than some of the squad. He and Dog kept scoring relatively freely when we were looking to settle for max batting points. Dog's limp dismissal for 35 brought in Diesel who was naturally pumped and ready. Bainesy eased to 65* (* shock) and we ended with 250-6 with everyone contributing something which meant the in-running Dale prices had taken a shift to the bowlers. Decent target to set on week 1.

Eastwood started looking intent on getting right after this total. Jacky boy, on debut for the 1st team, did exactly what opening bowlers should, striking in the first over and also removing the other opener in a great little spell. They were scoring quickly enough and Dog couldn't find much rhythm against the wind and got a bit of tap but did nick a wicket with Rich taking a sharp catch as he wasn't interested in the Brighton v Leeds game. In order to slow the run rate down, you slow the over rate down at the same time, so bring on Egg and NC. Two tidy spells underway until a monsoon hit, leaving us effectively blinded by the elements and having to use to the WWII bunker at the club for safety. After a session of nibs (hats and pringles getting thrown everywhere) from all angles, we were allowed to return to try and finish the job. Gas came on to rattle through overs leaving the batsmen with 2 excuses as to why they couldn't see the ball. He and Egg took 3 each, with the only real blot on the performance being the Daleworthy moment. Gas having rehearsed his send off for the drenched oppo skipper, got him to chip one to short fine, Rich a little casually decided to spill and ruin Gas' thunder, also allowing the skipper to make 50. All mopped (literally) up for 196.

Decent start.
