Match report
2nd Covid time friendly, this time against EHGB. Toss lost and put in on what looked like a good day for it. You might say the pitch was a little uneven and we were soon looking good at 9 for 4 after Egg, Rich, Gas and nightwatchman Goat (deployed to cloth the shine off the ball during these times when it's hard to keep it shiny, and he delivered, obvs) had all gone. Fish and Rob steadied the ship and put on 70 before Fish went for 34. Another decent partnership between Rob and Bainesy got us up to 160 before Bainsey went for a tidy 46. The Prince clearly has a good sense of touch as he looked amazed and like he wasn't going to walk for a nick to slip, see if Sandeep does sensory classes. Rob eventually went for 101 after socially distancing from his crease succumbing to the wiley bowling of Morgan Snr who finished with 2-8 from 6. With NC and JJ doing some late damage, we got to a very respectable 229 all out.
In return, we took a couple of relatively early ones (with a Daleworthy non attempt and drop from Goat in between) with the Prince using the short ball to devastating effect getting them both on the pull. Fish was getting bored of the boring batsman Newman who kept boringly spanking him everywhere whilst the fielders got bored fetching it. Make sense? Anyway, the partnership of Cramp and Newman needed breaking and it took a stunning catch from JJ who slid in quicker to pluck it than Egg did in to his chicken balls. Newman was the key wicket and batted very well for his 82, dropped by Rich (also Daleworthy) which could've cost us the game but enter NC who rattled through them with 4-22, well assisted by world number 4 all rounder, Goat with 3-25 with more Jaffas than a Tel-Aviv market. They fell 49 short, all out for 180.
Really enjoyable day with almost all of us back and against a good bunch of lads. Feeling generous so no official Dales today.
