Match report
Big game, big performance. In what turned out to be a strange afternoon, it started perfectly normally with Eglin losing the toss. Having said that, we may well have opted to bowl anyway with an indifferent forecast. We started well with a few tight overs from Fish and Dog with the latter removing Phillips with a smart catch from Eglin. That was as good as it got for 21 overs with Moore and Clark batting well and getting them to 105-1 at that point. Then, it just went crazy, a collapse that puts any of ours in recent years to shame. Eglin removed the oppo skipper for 49 and then McIntyre ran himself out straight away. This appeared to affect Clark, who'd batted very well for his 46 when he chipped Eglin to square leg where the Dog leapt to grab it as if it was a bonio treat from someone else's Mrs. It was then a matter of cleaning up. Some great glovework from Baines produced a fine stumping, an absolute worldy of a catch from the Goat and Eglin mopped up the tail for career best figures of 6-22 as they fell for 117, losing their last 8 wickets for 12 runs.
With the best opening attack we've faced in the division by some distance, it was never going to be a stroll in the park. Osbourne got in amongst our top order whilst Castledine was bowling a more hostile spell from the other end. Dog, Farrow (Dales for his 1 and missing stump) and Eglin all fell to Osbourne to leave us at 32-3 with Rob Lynn and Fish new to the crease. Rob rode his luck as per but found the boundary with frequency after a slow start. That stand was to remain unbroken as we reached the target in less than 20 overs with Rob 57* and Fish 27* at the close. Excellent win and sets up what looks to be a 3 way title race. Good to enjoy a few beers with the oppo (decent bunch of lads) after an early finish, discussing who the best bat in the league is amongst other things. Hopefully they'll win next week to tighten the league right up and we can both get promoted.
