Broomfield Cricket Club 1st XI v Springfield 3rd on Sat 13 Jul 2019 at 13:00
Broomfield Cricket Club Won By 7 Wickets
Match report
I won't bother with toss commentary anymore, bored of utter, utter givens. Springfield made the right choice unlike last week's victims and batted. After Fish removed their skipper first ball, we were looking at pushing for an early finish, certainly in time for the July Cup. Another two fell quickly after to Caravan Man and it looked on. However, a 4th wicket partnership that crawled along for over 20 overs kept us in the field. Now the Goat has focused on economy, he went another 10 with a 0 in the W column, more remarkably a 1 in the M column. Eglin broke the partnership and we set about wrapping it up. Specialist bowler Farrow came on and began to remove the lower order as well as the opener looking to carry his bat to record a 4 wicket haul. All this allowed a little twist of tweak to please the capacity crowd with Rob stealing 1 at the end that drifted and gripped (see averages). Fielding was better this week (a minor code brown as Butt, the Caravan Wingman just held on) and Rob was the only one to put down as he plotted his course to an unthinkable Dales. 147 was the target.
Butt partnered Eglin for the chase but fell soon enough as their young opening attack took on the Gerv mantle. Rob popped in and then popped out again whilst losing a stump in the process to get dillmayed and confirm the golden footwear was his. This left Egg and Fish to hold it together and they took us to drinks untroubled. Egg went first ball after the interval, in the 40s again which brought in the shaky looking Farrow who looked like he'd backed himself to get out in any other way than stumped (should've been a standard loser). Fish had done most of the damage to record back to back half centuries and cap a good all round performance to go with his 3 wickets, pity he's grounded next week. It was a comfortable 7 wicket win and with other results, next week looks the most important game in recent times for Broomfield.
