Broomfield Cricket Club 1st XI v Galleywood 1st on Sat 08 Jun 2019 at 13:00
Broomfield Cricket Club Won By 64 Runs

Match report Another toss lost for the skipper (shock) as he struggled to flick the coin after fracturing his fingers during the handshake with the opposition leader. It didn't matter, we were going to have first hit anyway. A reasonably solid start from Eglin and Rich Lynn until the inevitable LBW shout came for Rich and as he said, it would've missed off and leg. Dog Turner joined Eglin and probably overtook him after 2 balls, Eglin was to race on to 28 at the 22 over drinks break. He eventually fell when trying to smash a 2 just shy of his half century. Dog continued to pile on runs and in came Rob Lynn. Lasting only 3 balls he did the unthinkable and walked when nicking behind. Fisher came in and played nicely until he fell the same way. Now they were in to the tail, Dog put his foot down and brought up a fine century with his first maximum (how it took that long who knows) to get us up to 200. Looking good for full batting points, we only stumbled to 215-7 after Dog went for 101. Ungloat Butterfield was Dillesque for his 3 ball quacker.

The pitch still looked in good nick although the outfield a little a slow. The Galleywood openers started well, ticking over at 5 an over for a spell until the shock ball from Fisher arrived, a straight one. Dog Turner then got in on the act with an LBW that was somehow more plumb than Rich's in the previous innings. Their batting looked weak and by the time the openers had bowled out, they were 5 down, 3 for Dog and 2 for Fish. On came the Goat who naturally struck first ball, giv. However, he decided to change the sport to clay pigeon shooting for the rest of his spell and was quickly whipped off by the skipper. I couldn't help but think the sudden closure of the Broomfield colonel was a factor in this puzzling drop in form of the bleater. They never looked like getting near the total although there was some resistance from their elder statesman, Blowers, who played well for an unbeaten 50. The mental battle had already been won when one of the most prolific nibblers in history, Eglin, managed to hook Jaws' older brother whilst only using a 2lb line, it was quite sensational. Then to be caught by the Goat (bowled Eglin), I hope he went home and really evaluated his life. Some more concerning fielding again this week with 7 chances going down (2 with the gloves for Butt so he claimed his 2nd Dales of the season saving Rob's blushes), although most were a lot more difficult than the previous week. Still things to improve but a good win by 64 runs as they amassed 151 all out.
