High Easter 1st v Broomfield Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 01 Jun 2019 at 13:00
Broomfield Cricket Club Lost By 159 Runs
Match report
Losing the toss was the start of what became a very bad day as we were put in to the field. What was to follow can only be described as an utter sh*t show as yet again, we dropped sitter after sitter in the field. Dropping openers Brisland and Green a total of 5 times cost us in the region of 260 runs, Brisland dropped on 0 and again whilst still in single figures and Green once before he'd reached double figures would ultimately lead to a big total of 309-8 in their 45 overs. Eglin taking 4 and Reilley 3 was all that is worth a mention. Judging by what they had from 3-11, we wouldn't have been chasing 100 if we did the simple things right. A weak mentality in the field that needs to be addressed by everyone. When mistakes are made, we need to concentrate and be ready for the next one, not heads down and sulking waiting for tea. Some Lonsdale weightlifting gloves have been ordered for Diesel but no one could walk off at HT with any genuine pride.
In reply, Eglin and Butterfield got us off to steady start reaching 72 off 14 before Butterfield went caught at long on. Eglin went the same way shortly after just shy of his half century. Then came the collapse. Rob Lynn went for too much too soon trying to attack the short straight boundary and the wickets continued to tumble. A few decent cameos from Thumb Watkins, NC and the Goat managed to nick us a couple of batting points eventually reaching 150 all out.
Absolutely dreadful performance all round and we need to bounce back next week in the grudge derby vs Galleywood. #GoatVsNitro
