Broomfield Cricket Club Lost By 14 Runs

Match report A first defeat of the season and a little disappointing after restricting Hat Pov to 164 from their 45 after they had elected to bat first due what looked like a player shortage at the time. The pitch wasn't great and the outfiled looked like the Goat's, well, you know. Some good spells of bowling along with some severe variation from Farrow's first spell of the season kept it relatively tight and left us reasonably confident of chasing it down despite the pitch conditions.

In chasing, we got off to a slow start, only 21 came from the first 11 overs which included 11 from one when Rich Lynn gerved their gerv. Eglin fell for a sweatless 0 and reluctantly claimed Dalesmanship despite his protest. Soon after Rich fell and then Farrow leaving Dog Turner and Rob Lynn at the crease. A partnership of 63, including a plethora of dropped catches, was to follow and get us back on top until Dog chipped one straight up to depart for 18. Baines was soon to follow and Rob finally ran out of luck, including not killing a spectator when a heart sinking moment came from a 6 aimed a the pavilion. A 2nd half century of the season for Rob Lynn falling for 64. We were then struggling with the ever increasing run rate until Diesel came in, fully pumped and guns bulging like they'd just been in an all you can eat for 6 hours. Two lovely sixes in to the pavilion gave some slim hope to the chase until we finally ended 14 short with the Goat scoring a beautifully crafted 2, that's 2 more than Eglin.
