Springfield 3rd v Broomfield Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 11 May 2019 at 13:00
Broomfield Cricket Club Won By 5 Wickets
Match report
Another toss won and another victory. Poor conditions again so Eglin inserted Springfield. A mixed start to the game saw the first wicket fall to the most CBA run out in history which got us going. However, this innings was all about one man, Nitro Nick Cowell literally demolishing the opposition with career best figures of 7 for 22. Some good catching (one handed worldies from Cowell and Lynn) along with some dropped catches, a hat trick of such for Watts who claimed the Dales comfortably whilst also visiting A&E for an injury about 3 feet away from where the pain was. There were tidy spells from the returning Fisher and Eglin again whilst Deacon the Goat bowled the odd jaffa to no avail. It was all Cowell at the other end regardless, doing the necessary as we skittled the oppo for a poor 102.
In return, Farrow partnered the heavy Eglin and started reasonably until they both got cleaned up along with Rob Lynn as the opening Gervs were getting in to our top order. Springfield were growing in confidence and appealing for literally anything that wasn't hit for 4 and it took Dog Turner and gloveman Baines to steady the ship. Turner eventually fell to the worst ball of the innings, a Farrowesque long hop that he somehow stuck down short fine leg's throat. In came Fisher to partner Baines and kept it ticking until the defining moment of the game. Still needing 30 to win, Baines chipped one straight to Tomlar who somehow put it down, probably concentrating too hard on abusing the Goat for turning down LBWs that were going a foot down leg. They would pay for that error as Baines struck boundaries for fun until he fell for a top score of 33. We eventually knocked them off with 5 wickets to spare. Two from two, on to next week.
