Broomfield Cricket Club 1st XI v Navestock 1st on Sat 04 May 2019 at 13:00
Broomfield Cricket Club Won By 4 Wickets
Match report
In tricky conditions with showers forecast, Eglin miraculously won the toss (well, the opposition skipper lost it) and rightfully put Navestock in. Dog Turner being the senior bowler switched ends to use the slope and wind to get up to 60mph without getting on the scoresheet in his opening spell. Diesel Cowell came up the hill with some full gas and took the opening wicket in his 5 over spell. When Eglin removed the potentially dangerous Patel with the spawniest run out in history, it looked like the turning point in the game as the partnership was beginning to flourish. The economic veteran, Cowell Snr, bowled his 10 for just 25 runs whilst Turner came back on to mop with a 5 wicket haul, reducing Navestock to 163-8 from the rain reduced 40 over innings.
The heaviest opening partnership in the entire league got Broomfield off to a solid start, putting on 44 for the opening stand before Rich Lynn somehow got bowled around his backside from a left armer. Returning from a 12 year sabbatical, Watts entered the crease and struck a couple of nice boundaries before a similar dismissal. It was then down to Eglin and Rob Lynn, both of whom were starving at this point and Eglin somehow perspiring in the -5 degree conditions. As called, Lynn's first ball was fully Gerv'd in to the willow tree and the pair added 81 for the 3rd wicket whilst both reaching half centuries. Broomfield struggled over the line after Dog Turner and Gloat Butterfield forgot to hit the ball, eventually winning by 4 wickets.
