Broomfield Cricket Club 2nd XI v Rankins 2nd on Sat 17 Jul 2021 at 1:00
Broomfield Cricket Club Won by 7 Wickets

Match report Report for today. With summer finally arriving at Mill Lane, the village elders got together and decided it would be a good idea to bat first as it was described as b'stard hot. Unfortunately the village idiot was sent out to flip the coin and proved to be a useless tosser so we bowled first. This however did not seem to be such a bad outcome as in his first over Alfie Alexander took on the role as best bowler in the family and promptly removed two of the top three batsmen in his first over. So with things going just swimmingly, Broomfield continued to keep it tight. I would love to tell you how well however said village idiot copied the book up and missed this vital information. There was then a change of with more of the youth bowling one end in Jamie Tweed and Mr Pyne at the other. What followed was a very miserly spell of bowling from Mr P bowling 6 overs for 1 wicket and 0 runs with a well deserved and rare LBW decision being given . A further bowling change brought on some other young bucks in Mr Watts and Mr Alexander Senior (2nd best bowler in the house). Unfortunately by this time the remaining opening bat had got his eye in and started to dismiss the over 100 years of experience and increased the run rate. Further bowling changes did not stem the flow and his batting partner decided to start throwing the bat at the various Broomfield bowlers achieving a creditable score of 231 for 6 off of there 45 overs.

Then it was Broomfield turn led by Johnny O and Will May. Both got off the a decent start with Bromfield getting to 76 for 0 off the first 10 overs. Mr May was batting like a demon and being very dismissive of the Rankins bowling effort. The onslaught continued with Will seeing the ball like a beach ball as he twatted the ball to all parts of the ground. Eventually in over 16, Will had enough and decided to guide the ball on to his stumps for a well deserved rest scoring 82 with the team score on 136. Next in was Mr Watts who played himself in slowly only hitting 2 boundaries of his first over. In the background Johnny O was tapping away scoring the odd single here and there to get to his 50 (24 singles to be precise) and Mr Watts taking a different approach to getting to his 50. With both batsmen eventually surrendering their wickets mainly through exhaustion it was left to Lee and Noah to wrap things up chasing down 231 with 13 overs to spare. A good team effort from everyone today from our talented U13s through to our more experienced players of indeterminate ages. A good day in office was had and we hope those that played today are not too sore tomorrow. So in summary we smashed them. 😁
