Old Chelmsfordians v Broomfield Cricket Club Sunday XI & Social on Tue 22 Jul 2008 at 18.00
Broomfield Cricket Club Lost By 5 wickets
Match report
A last minute arranged 20twenty with OC's made for some tension for Broomfield, wondering if they were going to get 11 players out. In the end it turned out that about 13 turned up!
The skipper opened the batting with CJ Huntington of Danbury cc and the pair put on 44 in the first four overs. Huntington putting the ball away on the square leg boundary even with 2 fielders on it and the captain smashing two half volleys to the cover boundary. The partnership was broken with a slower ball that was chipped up to mid off. That brought to the crease probably Broomfields most exciting new player in Rahul Jagota. The runs seemed to dry up when CJ was removed for 48 even though 70 runs were on the board in the first 7 overs. Jagota was stumped prodding at a good length ball from Davies. Wickets began to fall quickly with Chris O'r being unluckily run out and Thorny being caught out. The only 'in' batsman Lloyd Newman (with some dodgey calling) helped run out probably the last chance Broomfield had to put some runs up in Luke Farrow. Jason Need and Kushal Gupta both fell for a combined total of 4 before James Chippendale came to the crease. Lloyd Newman upped the tempo with a couple of boundaries before being caught out. Chip contributed a handy 13 with Peter Thorns frequent stubbornness proving he is a difficult bat to get out. The flurry of 22 runs in the last 2 overs helped Broomfield limp to 145-9 at the break.
OC's started poorly with Jason Need bowling pitch perfect line and length to knock over the captain James Mawer first ball in a wicket maiden. Perhaps along with Jason bowling very economically, Luke Farrow proved his worth as a brilliant opening bowler. His figures do not reflect the performance which was outstanding, Gibson for 24 top of off-stump and taking another two wickets swinging the momentum back to Broomfield. Matt Eva came to the crease and with some big hits over Cow Corner and square leg upped the run rate considerably with Jamie goldstein. Matt Green sustained an injury at Terling 3 days before so bowled with terrible economy and probably took the game out of Broomfields hands. A good game followed with some beer and burgers for all the players. Matt Eva man of the match.
