Broomfield Cricket Club Sunday XI & Social v Mountnessing on Sun 29 Jun 2008 at 14.00
Match was Drawn

Match report The hot weather was evidentally fading away towards the end of June for the friendly at Brooklands vs Mountnessing. The conditions suited batting as the light was great and there was no chance of rain intervening. Mountnessing won the toss and invited Brooms to bat first, an offer which the skipper accepted with open arms.

Broomfield got off to a fantastic start and by far the best of the season so far with Chris O'Riordan securing a spot top of the order with the captain. It was O'Riordan that took command at the start being dismissed for 32 by a close Lbw. The skipper made it to the drinks break with the number 3 Spindler for the 3rd successive game in a row, he was asked-'why are you batting like a girl?' In response he went on a trip to boost his ego by loft the next ball for a one bounce four before being bowled next ball. Spindler was dismissed shrotly after to the straight one which allowed to come together one of the most destructive partnerships. Rahul and john O'Riordan got to work and piled on close to 100 runs, battering the attack into the tree's with precise timing. broomfield finished on 213-3 which was a positive sign for games to come seeing the top and middle order batsman contributing.

Mountnessing came to the crease knowing there was about 40 overs of cricket left in the day so the win was in reach, but it would be safer to bat for a draw. Fisher and Farrow applied the pressure from the off keeping things tight and were backed up by 1st and 2nd change bowlers. The introduction of James Chippendale enticed the batsman to have a go, and with mid on and mid off back it was only a matter of time before a wicket fell. Rahul and Green couldn't back up their performances with the bat when bowling, both returning similar figures at 6.5 an over. The main threat was the young opening bowler Luke Farrow who came back and took 3 wickets including 2 in successive balls. When opening bat made his well played century things looked in the balance, however J O'Riordan had other ideas bowling him for exactly 100. It was Broomfields to win but the last few wickets eluded them in what turned out a very tight game.

Man of the match J.Garrett-Kavangh for his 100 at the top of the order.
