Broomfield Cricket Club Sunday XI & Social v Upminster Sunday 2nd XI on Sun 08 Jun 2008 at 14.00
Broomfield Cricket Club Lost by 7 wickets
Match report
Broomfield's first Sunday friendly of the season kicked off on the 8th June facing tough opposition from the Shepherd Neame league's. After having a look at the wicket, weather and his sides best strength, Broomfield's Skipper elected to bat first.
The innings looked to be starting well with a young, makeshift opening pair, the skipper playing a couple of nicely timed cover drives before being dismissed caught and bowled.Stephenson was bowled in the fourth over along with the number 3. It was down to the middle order to try and rebuild the innings and slowly they got on with the job preventing the loss of further wickets. Nick Cowell was dismissed by a good close catch after looking settled followed shortly after by the number 6. This brough to the crease the intimidating presence of Lloyd and his beloved Kenny the Kookabura. From the 20th over the score ticked on nicely with Mahmood battling through to make 76 not out, accompanied by a solid knock of 26 not out by Lloyd Newman.
Upminster came to the crease in high spirits after being set a chaseable total. Questy started off by firing textbook drives through the off side off the opening bowlers, but his partner failed to make the same impact. In the 12th over came the break through from Newman with Sutton holing out at mid off. The other bowlers failed to swing the momentum of the game for Broomfield with the batsmen swiftly dispatching bowlers to all parts. The Skipper came on for a 6 over spell at the end but a couple of wickets were too late. Even though the game was lost there were positives to look at like Fisher's economical bowling and Mahmoods performance with the bat that earned him man of the match.
