Match report After the first weekend washout our 2nd team were full of excitement as we snaked our way through the concrete jungle of mid Essex to meet our Ilford opponents. The lost toss put us surprisingly in the field but the stodgy wicket didn’t seem to hamper IC3s as they hit 52 without loss after 10 overs. BCCs bowling eventually made breakthroughs with the wickets shared around. ‘Alphadog’, as he’s known in the U15s, had a particularly productive spell but Alfie’s 2 wickets didn’t include the opener, who narrowly missed out on his century; the damage was done. IC3s all out for 204, which would prove to be a good score.

BCC into action and new boy Richard Redman proceeded to bat like it was 1995 as he got off to a bright start, ably assisted by Jim’s Chinese cuts. The latter’s luck ran out, which brought in debutant Sam, who looked classy from the off. Richard’s drives and Sam’s dominance of the crease, quite literally at one point as 3 IC players bounced off his broad frame as they attempted to catch an errant top edge, gave us hope. However once they departed the rest of us could only flatter to deceive. All out for 103. Disappointing but we were evidently missing our home comforts of teas and a flushable toilet. Still, many positives to take having bowled them all out, with the Colts doing particularly well. Home game next to get the season started. 🏏
