Match report
A day when it looked like we had no chance of a game, only Rich and Egg begging to play whilst Mrs. Butt was urged to find the threads for the reserve keeper.
We started at the Chinese dentist and played 35 overs a side. They won the toss and stuck us in. The pitch didn't look too bad apart from the massive puddle. Egg and Gas started us off and Gas was a bit unlucky to fall to a decent catch and Egg went soon after, he actually walked. Rob was in, got a couple of lives and had a few handy partnerships with Dog, Rich and Diesel. Yet another life for Rob when he was approaching a ton when Bruce Grobler dropped (sounds familiar) a caught and bowled chance. Rob managed to get the ton and we ended up on 209-9 off the 35, a little golden in there for Goat as well who was legit triggered and not happy. Looked a decent score.
Their openers batted well and put on bundles, Goat chucking 2 on the floor from Wright helped them on the way. It seemed impossible to stop the runs as hard as Jack and Egg tried in their opening spells. NC came in to the attack and finally we made the breakthrough when they were already well past 100. A sharp catch from Egg off the bowling of NC got another and there was all of a sudden hope. We just had to get rid of Grobler and we managed it with a great catch from JJ, again off NC for 103. Dog came in to the attack after he regained consciousness after Butt tried to take his head off in the warm up. He supported NC well and we were getting right back in it, the slower ball claiming 2 victims for the mutt. With only 10 batsmen available for Ingatestone, we got them 8 down, 4 a piece for NC and Dog and it came down to the final over where they needed just 1 run. Pure carnage thereafter. Donald and Klusener happened again. Diesel flew to his right to block a cover drive with his gun, and with both batsmen at the same end, calmly chucked it to Butt to finish it off. We end with a tie and 9 more points than we thought we'd get.
As for the Dales, I think you can work it out from the above. The clearest cut winner for some time.
