Galleywood 1st v Broomfield Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 10 Aug 2019 at 13:00
Broomfield Cricket Club Won By 4 Wickets
Match report
On a wet pitch with poor conditions forecast, bowling first looked the right option having won the toss. However, the pitch seemed to play pretty well first up with Adams scoring freely for the oppo. In what looked a weakened batting line up, we would've expected to restrict them to less than the 201 they managed to post which could've been a lot more had it not been some good catching from Bainesy, Watts, Rob and a worldy from the Prince. It could've also have been less if Dog wasn't completely and utterly bun in the field dropping 3 catches, the last of which was quite frankly disgusting and no matter what happened in our innings, the Dales were printed on the paws. Fish was the pick of the bowlers picking up 4 wickets.
In reply, we got of to a steady start knowing the run rate shouldn't be an issue with the long batting line up. Eglin got Nitro'd first of all and then it was all 20 odds at best from the rest of the top order who all fell to the ever dangerous spin combo of Multi and Shrini, apart from Dog who redeemed himself somewhat top scoring with 47. At that point we were 161-6 needing 41 with 4 wickets in hand with the experienced duo of Baines and Watts at the crease. It was scratchy to begin with but they kept chipping away with the odd boundary and some very slow singles. The killer blow came from Watts, who was dropped by Multi early on (costly!), with what I believe was a 72m six taking us to within single figures required off the final 2 overs which they comfortably knocked off. A 4 wicket win in a game that could've gone either way and a point or two gained on our title rivals made it a good day.
