Broomfield Cricket Club 1st XI v Rettendon & Rayleigh Fairview 2nd on Sat 25 May 2019 at 13:00
Broomfield Cricket Club Won By 93 Runs

Match report Finally a decent day for it, even better when you lose the toss and Gerv sticks you in on what looks a belter of a track, who knows what he was smoking in those long, white snouts. Runs flowed from the off before Rich Lynn attempted to take a nearby hand glider out and missed. Farrow, looking as rusty as ever soon went after with a Daleworthy duck. In came Rob Lynn to partner the saturated Eglin, running between the wickets could pause for a while. Boundaries began to rack up until Eglin inside edged on to his stumps allowing Dog Turner to enter the run zone licking his lips with that long tongue of his. Rob soon passed 50 and then Dog began to play catch up, reaching his own in quick time. Surely there was a ton on for either of them but Dog went for 63 and Rob for 92, utterly bottling the jug when putting a Farrow-hop down some Rockstar's throat at deep mid-wicket. Fisher and Baines then continued to pour on the runs adding 49 and 48* respectively. Baines clearly playing for the average and Fisher getting out when he began to think about something. A stiff task for the oppo chasing 327.

Their innings got off to a flier and they appeared intent on chasing as best they could. Fisher then struck twice in quick succession removing the opener with that rare wicket of caught at slip then their skipper gloving behind, he'd been in 3 balls so was probably desperate for a snout and wanted to get back. Some great work from Baines removed the dangerous opener for 49, the ball spinning at least 3 feet from the Goat and that was really the end of any realistic hope of reaching the target. Eglin, Cowell and the Goat all got another wicket and then Prince Alkhalifa popped up with a couple including his mate whilst getting slapped about a good bit. A day where we got away with 6 dropped catches, Butterfield claiming a brace to snatch the Dales from the relieved Farrow. A special mention for Cowell amidst the drop catches as well where he suddenly turned in to a blind version of Fisher and then followed it up with a great white of a nibble to put teeth marks in to nearly all his teammates. Good win, on to Pleasure Dome next week.
