Match report It was a fine summers evening (for once!) and at Purleigh's pleasantly set cricket ground, the home side won the toss and elected to bat first. Matt Need and Ron Ram both struggled with their line and lengths in the first few overs but Ronnie made the break through bowling the Purleigh skipper for 3. Green came on for an average spell of mystery bowling actions but had much the same problem however when the home sides opener decided to run to the keeper and the keeper decided to knock the stumps over.
Franko bowled well as did Chip for his first spell keeping things going at a very average 6 an over. Matt Need came back with teh ball a lot less shiny and knocked over a couple of batsmen with gun barrell straight bowling. Ron Ram completed his overs and claimed another scalp but when the skipped came back to finish his he bowled a dreadful last over giving away 10 runs and chip giving away 16.

Broomfield needed to start positively and with a fine mixture of youth and experience got to work on dismantling the Purleigh bowling attack. Faharn Mahmood got to 28 before retiring in the first 5 overs. John O'riordan punished the bad ball and few flourishing strokes from Eggy kept the rate up at around 8. Eggy was given out lbw missing a pie but batted well for his 21. John O and big Al Franko batted well and ran hard with the bowlers tightening up their lines. John retired on 25 having been on 24 for 7 balls frustrating the whirlwind arms of the THORNado next in! Franklin holed out to mid-wicket giving the home side some hope with 7 an over needed. Guest player Andy Mayonaise decided he wanted to play cricket again and with a lot of nice shots the pair destroyed the Purleigh attack once more. Running well and a one bounce for back over Elliots head settled the fixture and took the visitors to the target with 5 balls to spare.

Overall a brilliant batting performance but with the amount of extra's given away by Broomfields incompetant bowlers meant that the chase could have been a lot easier. At last Brooms won a tuesday game and I am once more a happy captain!
