Great Baddow Sunday XI v Broomfield Cricket Club Sunday XI & Social on Sun 22 Jun 2008 at 14.00
Broomfield Cricket Club Lost by 33 runs

Match report The good weather in June continued and it was Broomfields turn to travel on the 22nd to the Baddow Rec. to play Great Baddow. The two sides had met previously in a pre-season game that was rained off with Broomfield looking to have been track for victory. The toss was won by Broomfield and the skipper chose to have a bowl and chase a target.

The youngster Farrow opened the bowling and went at six an over in his first spell up against two good strokemakers for great Baddow. James Stephenson opened with him at the same economy rates and it was time for a change after 8 overs, as Baddow looked to be running away with the game before it had even got going. The talented, and recent addition to the club Rahul Jagota and Steve Owens, replaced the bowlers and yet again it was Owens who provided a break through dismissing Chatt. Baddow continued strongly and it was the introduction of South African seamer Phil Win that swung the game back to Broomfield and boost morale in the field. He was bowling pacey deliveries full and straight at the stumps. At first he was frustrated with no return and it was added too when on a role the skipper dropped back and dropped Bradley Warner-Denny. Eventually he was satisfied after bowling an 8 over spell, taking 2 wickets for 38. A strong partnership to bring Baddow back on top was between the 6 and 7 both knocking up half centuries and finishing on 214-5.

Broomfield felt refreshed after the tea break and were in high hopes of chasing the total on a quick out field. Make shift opening batsman Phil Win and Gibson went out together to start the innings, but sadly Gibson retraced his steps soon after for 5. Debutant Jagota batted at 3 and after punishing Harding for 11 in an over was harshly dismissed for 17 Lbw. The captain had to now push the runs on carefully with Win and did so with great success the pair adding 40 to the score in 9 overs. Win was out stumped when he attempted to use his feet to the slow bowler Diton and that brought Spindler to the crease at 5 after a gritty performance the previous week. Green took it upon himself to up the rate with Spindler at the other end and took the score to 142-3, so Broomfield had one eye on victory with the skipper looking set. Once the captain had holed out and long on the outlook was still positive with newman taking it to the bowlers from the word go hitting two lofted fours with sheer strength. Smith picked the 5 and 6 both Lbw after positive starts and the Broomfield counter attack fizzled out into 181-8.

After an intense match Broomfield went home dissappointed again, but knowing there was massive improvement in different area's of their overall game. Kirky recieved the man of the match for his aggressive 50 not out.
