Match report With the sun shinning on Brooklands, Broomfield faced familiar the opposition of Chignal. This would be one of 6 games against them , so with prior knowledge of the sides encounters Green elected to bat first on a suprisingly hard track.

Broomfield came to the crease, Dave Gibson the steady 2nd team opening batsman with the skipper. The two of them got to seeing off the opening bowlers, with two well timed cut shots from the skipper for four and letting the extras keep the board ticking over. Gibson was dismissed with a length perfect inswinging yorker from tidy opening bowler Sam Hodgeson and Mahmood follwed shortly after to the first change paceman. Under 13 batsman Jacob Spindler was given his chance at number 4 with constant reassurance he should play his natural game. He battled well for 12 runs getting behind the ball and playing some nice attacking shots, but letting the captain do the scoring at the other end. Nigel Clarke was brought on just before the drinks break and dismissed the number 4 bringing Brian green to the middle. Straight after the drinks break the skipper was dismissed ending a short father and son partnership. The 2nd XI captain came to the crease and put on a quick 20 runs with Green senior rotating the strike but failing to really impact the score. Broomfield's lower order and tail was capable of scoring runs on paper, but couldn't prevail and were dismissed from a positive start for 138

Broomfield replied well with Owens bowling the opening bat for a duck, but the momentum was swinging back to Chignal, with Field and Clark putting on a handy brisk partnership before the youngster Matt Need broke through bowling the hitter Brad Field. The number 4 came in and proved a tricky customer but when Clarke followed Field back to the pavillion there was a glimmer of hope in the fielding side. Owens continued to bowl fast and straight getting the number 4 and when Dizzy came back on for a second spell upping his pace and accuracy Chignal stumbled with 2 wickets falling in 2 balls. Ross Cant the skipper at number 5 however provided resilience and carried his side over the line. His opening batsman Brad Field claiming the skippers man of the match.
